There shall be two classes of individual voting membership, Professional and Retired; and two classes of individual non-voting membership, Student and Associated.  

Professional Members – Voting Member provided they:

  • Clinical Member: Master’s degree or higher in counseling or a related field covering the basic principles of mental health counseling from a regionally accredited institution. Primary work is in direct delivery of mental health counseling services. Hold state licensure as a Mental Health Counselor.
  • Regular Member: Master’s degree or higher in counseling or a related field covering the basic principles of mental health counseling from a regionally accredited institution.

Retired Members – Voting Member provided they:

  • Retired with a Master’s degree or higher in counseling or a related field covering the basic principles of mental health counseling from a regionally accredited institution. Primary work is in direct delivery of mental health counseling services. Held state licensure as a Mental Health Counselor.
  • Retired with a Master’s degree or higher in counseling or a related field covering the basic principles of mental health counseling from a regionally accredited institution.

Student Member: Enrolled at least half-time in a graduate program in counseling or a related discipline. Eligible for up to 3 years only in this membership category.

Associate Member: Primary work responsibilities are in human resources/personnel, or supporter of the professional work of LMHCA. (non-voting member)
